England National Cricket Team will be without the services of fast bowler Olly Stone after the ongoing first Test against Pakistan National Cricket Team. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that the pacer is getting married this weekend and will be leaving the team on Wednesday.
The reports claimed that Olly Stone will be doubtful for the second Test against England National Cricket Team. Although the date for his wedding is yet to be confirmed, the fast bowler will be against the time to return for the second game, which will take place at the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi from Tuesday next week.
England management is happy with Olly Stone leaving Pakistan for his wedding
Stone didn’t feature in the England XI for the first Test against the Pakistan National Cricket Team. The Ollie Pope-led side preferred to give the debut cap to Brydon Carse. This will make Stone fly home earlier than initially planned ahead of his wedding on Saturday.
The reports also claimed that England management is happy with Olly Stone leaving Pakistan for his wedding. This was because the fast bowler was not included in their last batch of central contracts, and his wedding was arranged long before his recall, hence, the ECB has no problem with him going back home.
The reports claimed that Stone spoke to Rob Key and Brendon McCullum – England’s managing director and coach respectively – before the tour, who agreed that he should head home to get married.
We booked the wedding on the basis of me only playing for Notts at the time – Olly Stone
Ahead of the Test series, Stone said that they planned the wedding on the basis of him playing for Notts. He said that her wife agreed to everything he said, and he would be trying to do and make it work for her. Speaking to BBC, he explained:
“We booked the wedding on the basis of me only playing for Notts at the time. Jess said she was happy to move the wedding and I was adamant on keeping it where it was if possible. For what she has given up and sacrificed for me, I thought the least I could do was to try and make it work.”
It’s a special time in anyone’s life – Joe Root on Olly Stone
Joe Root also talked about Stone getting married, saying that it’s a special time for anyone and he is excited for the fast bowler. While talking about the same, he elaborated:
“It’s a special time in anyone’s life. I’m really excited for him. I’m sure he is all over the place with everything that’s going on, but it’ll be very special for him – and his wife – starting a different chapter in his life. We’ll all be raising a cold water to him at some point, celebrating.”
Stone took seven wickets in two Tests against Sri Lanka. With him leaving England, the visitors will be having Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, and Chris Woake along with Matthew Potts as the other fast bowler in the squad.
